FB Education Services operates as an Early Childhood Services (ECS) program accredited by Alberta Education, collaborating with local preschools and daycares to deliver early intervention services. Our program offers a comprehensive array of programming and support tailored to children during their crucial developmental years. Supporting the Educational Journey

At FBA Education Services, we offer access to a comprehensive range of supports tailored to meet the specific needs of each child. Program Unit Funding Is your child experiencing challenges in speech, language, motor skills, social interactions, cognition, self-help, or emotional regulation? Do they have a medical diagnosis? If so, they may be eligible for Program Unit Funding (PUF) provided by Alberta Education. PUF funding is available for children aged between 2 years 8 months and 6 years old, who have severe delays in development. Eligible children can receive funding for up to 3 years, with the last year intended for Kinder Age Programs. Mild/Moderate Funding (M/M): Is your child facing mild to moderate delays in speech, motor skills, social skills, cognition, self-help, emotional regulation or gifted & talented? Alberta Education provides funding for children with mild to moderate delays starting as early as 3 years & 8 months of age, with funding available for a maximum of 2 years, the last year intended for Kinder Age Programs. English as an Additional Language Funding (EAL): EAL funding is available for children who are at least 3 years 8 months old as of September 1st and are new to learning English.

Individual Program Plans

At FB Education Services, the child’s IPP is usually developed at the start of each calendar school year (September – June). Here’s a typical timeline for developing an IPP:

SEPT

Parents/Guardians will provide FB Education Services team with your child’s:

  • Talents, passions, and requirements
  • Pertinent medical background and plan

OCT

The Alberta Certificated teachers on the team will initiate the identification of essential areas and focal points within your child’s IPP, and begin writing goals and objectives that will support their learning and development within the leaming environment.

NOV

We will reach out to schedule a meeting with you to discuss, review, and sign the IPP with the Alberta Certificated teacher and other members on the multidisciplinary team.

Dec-feb

The multidisciplinary team will keep working on goals, strategies, and support plans, making changes if necessary.

mar

Parents/Guardians will provide FB Education Services team with your child’s:

  • We will get in touch to schedule a mid year IPP check in to go over and sign up
  • If necessary, new goals, strategies, and support plans can be made or changed.

Apr-May

The Multidisciplinary team will keep working on the child’s goals, strategies, and support plans, making changes if
necessary. Meetings may be scheduled to discuss transition plans for your child.

June

We’ll finish up transition details and a summary for the end of the year to prepare for the next year.

We will reach out to schedule a final meeting with you to discuss, review, and sign the IPP with the Alberta Certificated teacher and other members on the multidisciplinary team.

Kayla Smith

Program Director, Early Intervention & Education

With over a decade of experience in the Education Industry, Kayla earned her Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education from the University of Alberta. While teaching Kindergarten at a Montessori school, she unearthed her passion for early intervention and the transformative impact of early education. With a deep belief in personalized learning, she passionately advocates that every child can thrive with the right support.

Judy Zonneveld

Educational Coordinator (AB Certificated Teacher)

Judy started off her education career in the 90’s teaching and coaching Kindergarten to Grade 12, along with coaching many girls volleyball teams and club volleyball teams.  In 2018, she took the role of KidsU Movement Coordinator where she helped to develop the KidsU preschool movement curriculum. Judy is beyond passionate about how impactful movement can be to support executive function and overall growth and development in students of all abilities.

Kim Cooper

Educational Coordinator (AB Certified Teacher)

Kim is a Certified Teacher, with a diverse educational background.  She has spent her life in pursuit of educating students, starting with teaching dance and gymnastics when she was young.  This led her to a career as an elementary teacher and a teacher in a special education setting.  Kim is passionate about early childhood education and supporting diverse learners.

During this time she found her passion was amplified when working with children with diverse needs. Dylan prides herself in her calm and open approach, creating a safe space for children to explore new skills.

Behaviour Strategist

Michelle is a dedicated educator with extensive experience in early intervention. She has worked both one-on-one with children and as a teacher in special education settings. Currently, Michelle is pursuing a Master of Counseling degree, with aspirations to advance in the field of child psychology. She is extremely passionate about early childhood education and its critical role in shaping a child’s future. Michelle is skilled in addressing the diverse needs of today’s learners and is enthusiastic about contributing to a team that will support your child’s development.

What is the screening process?

Screening Process:

  • Conducted by a multidisciplinary team consisting of a certificated teacher, speech/language pathologist, occupational therapist, and behaviour specialist.
  • Duration: 10 – 20 minutes approximately.
  • Screening takes place during class time while your child attends childcare.

How much does the program cost?

If a child qualifies for services before December 1st, there is no cost for families to access the Early Intervention Program. Funding is obtained through Alberta Education.

When can my child start Early Intervention Services?

For families with children under 3 years old, it's essential to note that Program Unit Funding (PUF) is available for a maximum of 3 years. Alberta Education mandates reserving the 3rd year for your child's Kinder Age Programs year.

Mild/Moderate (M/M) funding has a maximum duration of 2 years, and eligibility requires children to be 3 years and 8 months old by September 1st. Alberta Education mandates reserving the 2nd year for your child's Kinder Age Programs year.

Are assessment and therapy services available for private access?

Yes, assessment and therapy services can be requested on a fee-for-service basis. Please reach out to edservices@fuelingbrains.com to inquire for a consultation.
