A newborn’s brain is known to be about 25 percent of its approximate adult weight. As the infant grows into a toddler, the brain grows dramatically by producing billions of cells and hundreds of trillions of connections, or synapses, between the cells. Extensive research over the years has created much awareness among parents and there is an “awakening” to the fact that the first months of life are a period of incredible growth in all areas of a baby’s development.
Our infants’ section, designed to keep in mind an infant’s world of wonders, strives to provide a safe, soothing environment where the babies are honoured by experienced educators and caregivers. Infancy is a sensitive period for developing self-control, which occurs in the first year of life. Every time a teacher or caregiver picks up and pats a crying baby to help her/him calm down, the teacher is assisting in the development of the neural network for self-control. Babies who are left to cry for long periods of time often develop into individuals with little or no self-control.
The progression from 6 to 12 months of age is extensive, and aids in developing movement, language and social skills. One major area in which a child develops cognitively during this time is in the realm of curiosity. Babies learn to roll and crawl during this phase, and once they have found this freedom of movement, they explore and discover new things. During this period, babies observe objects through their senses. They become incredibly interested in toys with bright colors and various textures, especially if the toys make noise. Fueling Brains Academy has created a well-equipped play area with these specifications in mind. In this play area, by dropping, throwing, shaking and rolling objects, the babies will learn how things work, and they will also begin to learn cause and effect. We believe that with parents as our partners, we can help infants get off to a good start and establish healthy patterns for life-long learning.
The period of 12 months onwards is marked with the development of motor skills at a rapid rate. Everything seems attractive and worth touching, smelling, and tasting. Babies at this age are full of energy. They are active and always curious. Another great change that occurs from 12 months onwards is the child’s ability to begin to express himself/herself.
A 19-month old baby is considered a toddler. Brain development and especially cognitive development during this time is rapid. Cognitive development is the formation and development of skills related to thinking, reasoning and understanding. This includes language skills as well as the acquisition and compartmentalization of knowledge. As your baby grows, he/she learns more and more about the relationships between people and objects, especially the relationships in his/her world.
By the time your child is 19 months old, he/she will have learned to be a person apart from his/her parent/caregiver. From 19 months of age, Kids U encourages toddlers to transition from the Infant program to Junior Preschool.
We believe that the bond with the child’s caregivers is crucial in their whole child development. In order to aid them through this process, and to help accommodate you in choosing what type of child care you need, we offer two unique scheduling options.
All of our ingredients are GMO and preservative-free, ensuring that the infants are eating healthy from an early age. We even provide a separate menu for children who are vegetarian, and giving attention to children with allergies is of high importance.
